We’ve all experienced some adversity in our lives. It’s how we deal with it that counts.

You are invited to a FREE, incredibly inspirational presentation by Kaleb Dahlgren taking place THIS Saturday, February 1st at Glen Abbey United Church, 1469 Nottinghill Gate, Oakville at 7pm. In 2018, he was an Assistant Captain of the Humboldt Broncos and ultimately a survivor of the bus crash that resulted in 16 deaths, 13 players left in critical condition and broke the collective hearts of our nation. Come hear how he overcame these obstacles to now attend York University, play varsity hockey and inspire others to overcome adversity in their own lives. If you wish, please wear a hockey jersey in support of Humboldt Strong! This presentation is part of the Glen Abbey United Church Inspirational Speaker Series, made possible by the Outreach Committee and the generous support of GLENCO.

Free registration is available now at

Thank you to those who donated last Sunday.  This Sunday we are collecting laundry detergent pods and baby wipes.  Please consider purchasing and depositing in the grocery cart at the church on Sunday morning.  Your donations are greatly appreciated by those in need.

Thanks to all those who made chili, hash, baked, set up and organized. THANK YOU!

GREAT WINTER WARM UP (PART 2!).  Thank you to everyone who came out on January 13th to help  press and cut fabric and to those who came out on January 18th to make comforters.  We completed 2 comforters and 3 more are well on their way to completion.  We’ve scheduled another sewing bee for Sunday February 2nd from 130 pm until 4:30pm to put the finishing touches on the last 3 comforters.  For more information or to let us know you’ll be there, contact Sandra Thwaites or Susan Francis.

ANNUAL GENERAL MEETING – February 23rd, 2020

This annual congregational meeting will be held after service on Sunday, Feb. 23rd. This is a good time to begin considering how you could express your commitment to our Church by taking on a role that someone else may have been working at for a long time and is ready for a change.

Please pray about it and see what God has in store for you!

LOVE TO SING??  Consider joining our GAUC CHOIR,

Practice will be Thursday evenings at 7:30pm, come and enjoy great fellowship! January would be an ideal time to start ( or continue on) as in February we will be part of a mass choir event with other denominations. Let’s have a great turnout! For more info please contact our Music Director Yvonne Choi @

PICKLEBALL is on Friday,  at 7:30pm in the gym.  Newcomers are welcome to come at 7:15pm for some instruction.  Just bring soft soled shoes, a loonie and your own water bottle.

We look forward to seeing our great Glen Abbey kids on Sunday mornings! With the growing number attending Sunday School these days, we are grateful for the additional volunteers who have come forward to help out. Introducing your Sunday School Team: Cris Vance (Team Leader), Paul Peters, Sara Vance, Candace Sunderland, Eleanor Goodman, John Cramm, Karen Meyer, Marie Kim, Sandra Thwaites, Tracy Bothelo. You probably have some really good memories of Sunday School yourself. We invite you to bring your children, grandchildren, nephews, nieces and friends to enjoy our Funday…every Sunday.  If you have any questions, please speak to Cris or phone her at 905-220-7115.

DID YOU KNOW? that our Church is a beautiful place to hold a wedding, with a wide middle aisle, plenty of seating and parking, and is available to anyone? Rev. Ted works closely with the couple to get to know them, to make sure their ceremony is really personal, engaging, low stress and enjoyable! No connection with the Church is needed, and if the wedding is at a different location, he is still available to officiate. Just call 905-515-3317.

Your giving to Glen Abbey United can result in a nice income tax deduction at the end of the year. You will receive a charitable donation receipt if you have offering envelopes, or even simpler, just sign up for PAR (pre-authorized remittance) Please contact Peter Hobbes at or speak to Rev. Ted.

It’s so good to see how people are enjoying socializing and coffee before the service, but please plan on arriving between 9:30 and 9:45 to do this, as we still want to start the service right at 10am. Thanks for your help in making this happen! When the bell rings, that’s a 2 minute warning!

GAUC SEWING CIRCLE – meets most Sundays in the Nursery from 2pm – 4pm.  If you are a sewer or have been wanting to learn, this is the group for you!  Many of the items made are gifted to local charities.  For more info contact Sandra Thwaites

Whether you need a nametag, to get a tax receipt by receiving offering envelopes or even easier, pre-authorized remittance (PAR), or an occasional mailing, please fill out the information card in the pew and put it on the offering plate.

WHO ARE YOU? A great aspect of a Church Family is being able to call each other by name. If you have a permanent name tag, PLEASE wear it! If you need one, just fill out the card in the pew, or email Pat at  Not everyone is able to remember names, and we have many new people, so please let them know who you are! If you don’t have one yet, we have stick-on ones with markers near the coffee station.

Whether it’s Facebook, Snapchat, Instagram or any other medium, please visit  and you can share  from there to invite your friends! Also reviews of our Church on Google or Yelp would be MOST appreciated and an excellent way to share with the community the great things that are happening here!

IN OFFICE HOURS–If you would like to meet with Rev. Ted, Tuesdays-10am to 6pm or Thursdays-10am to 7:30pm, or after choir practice, would be the best times. If a Wednesday appointment is necessary, he will drive in, as he is working at home that day and Fridays.

A couple of times per year we will send out a mailing to every home. To keep in touch, if we don’t currently have your address, email and phone number, please fill out one of the forms that are in the pews, or email Pat Thompson at
