Glen Abbey United News

GAUC NEWS for February 25th, 2018

Our journey towards Holy Week continues as this week is the Second Sunday of Lent

Remember, every Sunday coffee, tea, hot chocolate and cookies are available at 9:30, so we can chat before Service and Sunday School at 10am.

MESSAGE FROM REV. TED

Jesus told us to follow him we should take up our cross. The people then, and  a lot of us now, probably wondered “What in the world does Jesus mean by THAT?” That’s what we’ll be focusing on this Sunday. Another way to change our lives for the better during this season of self examination.

We may not win a gold medal, but continuous improvement seems to be working for our Olympic athletes, so why not for us!

See you all on Sunday!

This week’s Message title:   “Take Up MY Cross?”

Focus Scripture:                    Mark 8: 31-38

Our Current Praise Song:  From the Inside Out. by Hillsong United.   Don’t worry we’re only singing the first 5:25, not this whole video:

READY TO BECOME A FULL MEMBER??

Membership has it’s privileges!  If you’ve been attending Glen Abbey and feel like you would like to be officially connected, then maybe it’s time to become a full member. From having reviewed the official Historic Roll, it would appear that there might be several of you who have attended regularly for a long time, but never been received as an official member. It’s painless and can be done by transfer of membership from a previous Church or by re-affirmation of faith. No classes required, you just come to the front and answer a few questions. Never been baptized? We can handle that at the same time. Plus, we’ll do it as a group, on a New Members Sunday, in case you’re shy.

So what privileges does membership offer? Well, we can’t promise cash back at the end of the year or frequent praying miles, however you will then be qualified to vote on important congregational matters. Additionally the Manual of the United Church states that Board Members or Presbytery Reps must be full members. But the most important thing is the extra feeling of belonging that is all too rare in this world today. If you consider Glen Abbey to be your Church home, let’s make it official. Please contact Rev.Ted at revtedvance@glenabbeyunitedchurch.com or 905-825-5292 ext 102.
